WHY JOIN – HOW WILL IT BENEFIT ME?
In plain English, ISKDA is an Australian shotokan karate network. A platform where shotokan practitioners (practicing or retired) & Instructors (practicing or retired) can unite for many benefits without all the politics, fees or hierarchy issues.
CAN ANYONE JOIN – DOES IT COST MONEY ?
Any Senior student or Dan grade who is either currently practicing or not currently practicing and graded in shotokan karate including derivatives of Shotokan karate may join. Joining ISKDA designates you as either an Affiliate or Dojo Affiliated. There are no fees to join.
CAN I GRADE OR OBTAIN RECOGNITION OF MY GRADE ?
Yes, ISKDA offers shotokan gradings with authentic ISKDA certificates (lineage to Sensei Sumi) for $100 each and also a mechanism for recognition of grades for $100 each. These grading certificates or recognition of grades complying with WJKA’s rules are acceptable by the World JKA Karate Association (WJKA).
HOW DOES ISKDA EXIST FINANCIALLY ?
ISKDA is an Alliance, Not a business, club/dojo or an Association. Membership is free and your contribution / Mentoring to other members is voluntary. ISKDA primary expenses include website and WJKA membership which is covered by fees from shotokan gradings and or recognition of grades.
CAN I GRADE OTHERS UNDER ISKDA ?
Yes, approved instructors can grade students and purchase an ISKDA certificate. However, to obtain a comparable / equivalent certificate from the World JKA Karate Association, ISKDA approved instructors require to be current Examiners of the WJKA (this includes Life membership and their grades registered). WJKA Examinations require a panel of two Examiners, limited by their licence.
CAN I ALSO JOIN the World JKA KARATE ASSOCIATION (WJKA) ?
Yes, ISKDA encourages direct membership with the World JKA Karate Association. As an affiliate of ISKDA, you can be supported in also applying for Examiner / Referee status of the WJKA.
CAN I TRAIN WITH ISKDA AFFILIATED DOJO’S ?
Yes, ISKDA encourages interaction and training with Affiliates and Dojo Affiliates. However, you will be expected to comply with courtesy and obey the rules of that Affiliates Dojo including training fee, proof of insurance or disclaimer.
